Subject: PSA Grower Training
See email below and attachment regarding an upcoming PSA Grower Training.
The FDA finalized the FSMA Produce Safety Rule last year in January. Farmers wanting to provide their products to institutions need to be aware of the mandated Produce Safety Rule and its requirements.
This September there will be an opportunity for growers to become trained with an FDA approved curriculum developed by the Produce Safety Alliance from Cornell University.
This year, farmers that are actively growing in Texas are qualified to get a scholarship offered by Texas A&M Agri-Life Extension Center in Overton, Texas. This scholarship will cover Texas farmer's grower training book and certificate-of-attendance from the Association of Food and Drug Officials (AFDO.org).
This training will satisfy the mandatory "farmer training" requirement mandated by the FDA:
(112.22(a)) " All workers that handle or contact covered produce or supervise covered activities must be trained.
(112.22(c)) " In addition to the training requirements for supervisers of those that handle covered produce during covered activities, at least one supervisor from the farm complete food safety training equivalent to the standardized curriculum recognized by the FDA."
The PSA curriculum satisfies that requirement.
